Education takes centre stage in cabinet meeting

The Prime Minister and Head of Government Philemon Yang on 30th September 2015 chaired a cabinet meeting with state Ministers in Yaounde.

The meeting which laid emphasis on education was marked by presentations by some state Ministers on challenges encountered in their respective Ministries.

The Minister of Higher Education Professor Jaque Fame Ndongo in one of his presentations reexamined Government’s plan in the promotion of quality education in private institutions.

In order to guarantee quality education, Mr. Fame Ndongo recapped that Universities have to improve the enrolment of students. To him, students ought be trained based on competence, not only for theoretical knowledge.

Practical education in fields like industrial technology can only be achieved if teachers are provided with modernized teaching equipment. This in bid can help students to quickly pick up jobs after graduation.

The competence of private Higher Institutions was also put to question given that the number of higher institutions have increased from 12 in 2001 to 85 in 2015.

His counterparts at the Ministry of Secondary and Basic Education all presented their reports on security measures taken towards the 2015/2016 academic year.

The Minister of Communication Issa Tchiroma Bakari also made a presentation on the December 2006 laws that regulates advertisement.
