WHO offers over 400 bikes to Cameroon

A consignment of 422 motorcycles was donated to the Ministry of Public Health on August 25, in Yaounde.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) donated equipment to the Ministry of Public Health on Monday August 25, in Yaounde.

The equipment which comprises of 422 motorcycles is aimed at strengthening the Expanded Programme of Immunization in Cameroon. The equipment is worth FCFA 548, 600,000 financed by the Global Allaince for Vacin and Immunization” (GAVI).

Speaking at the occasion, the Representative of WHO Charlotte Faty Ndiaye said the objective of the WHO which is to improve the indicators which contribute towards meeting the challenges of the MGDs in which Cameroon is involved in order to ensure better health for the people.

On his part the Secretary of State for Public Health in charge of Epidemics and Pandemics, Alim Hayatou hailed the continuous support of the WHO in strengthening the health system in Cameroon. He said the equipment will be sent to the various destinations and assured a good use the equipment.

The motorcycles are destined for the ten regions of the country. Presently, four regions- Adamawa, Centre, Far North and North regions have received 36, 59, 40 and 41 motorcycles respectively.

The 422 motorcycles will contribute to facilitate movement of health workers in health areas in zones which are not easily accessible so at to reach every child no matter where it is for a better performance of the Expanded Programme of Immunization.

The donation is part of activities carried out by WHO alongside the Ministry of Public Health within the framework of strengthening the health system in Cameroon in the sector of vaccination notably the donation of 10 four-wheel drive vehicles to ten health districts in the country in June 2014.
