The "Union des population du Cameroon" (UPC) is working hard to stage a comeback to the country's political landscape. The party through its new Secretary General who was officially presented to the public on August 25 in Yaounde, Hon. Dr. Pierre Sende during a press conference that coincided with the first annual Bureau meeting of the party, vowed to come back to the National Assembly and win more councils during the upcoming Legislative and Council elections.

For the dream to come true, the party leaders believe that mobilizing supporters to register for upcoming elections is the only panacea. A Steering Committee (Comité Directeur) meeting has therefore been convened for September to draft strategies on how the party can regain its past glory and pay tribute to its founding founders who fought hard for the party and also the country. "We have been told that Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) want to begin its work by the end of September and that is why we want to be with them, accompany them, work with them and hope that we will have a very good relationship during that period," Pierre Sende said. He further affirmed their determination to mobilize supporters embrace the upcoming biometric recompilation of the electoral register.

On how united the party is, the new head of its general secretariat explained that people do not understand the law the same way. From January, he said, party officials and supporters have held meetings together in one room but today, some of the people are no longer there because not everyone understands the laws the same way. "We hope that we are going to respect the laws of our country and by doing that, we will come to speak one language, be together and unity will reign," Pierre Sende hinted.
