Ambulance burns on Ydé-Bangangté highway

An ambulance which had on board members of a family and the remains of their relative was entirely consumed by flames along the Yaoundé-Bangangté, Saturday, May 9 in the morning. According to reports, no loss of life was recorded.

The ambulance which left the Littoral region at 4 o'clock in the morning with members of a family and the remains of one of them, could not reach the Bantoum locality where the body was to be buried.

According to witnesses, it was at the point where the driver and his aide, commonly referred to as Motor-boy, were trying to change the front tire that the vehicle caught fire. Fortunately, passengers escaped and were able to recover the remains before the fire completely consumed the car.

The driver of the bus, Siangue Honoré, attempted to save his vehicle in vain. In an attempt to save some valuables in the bus, he inhaled a good amount of smoke. He was rushed to the University Clinic facilities where he has been placed under intensive care.

The elements of the gendarmerie brigade of Bantoum arrived on the scene as soon as they were alerted, while the concerned family arranged for a new vehicle for Bantoum for the funeral and burial of their remains.

An investigation has been opened to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
