31 bishops of Cameroon are in the Vatican since Sunday where they started their visit at the Holy centre as explained by Robert Nginyu Tanto, Deputy Secretary-General of the national Episcopal conference of Cameroon.

Until September 6, they will be following the footsteps of Saints Pierre and Saint Paul, the first two Apostles buried in Rome.

He informed that the bishops are visiting "Ad Limina Apostolica": ‘in the tombs of the Apostles’. The event is registered in the schedule of their activities.

According him, every five years, the Bishops of each country visit the Vatican for this purpose.

During this week, they will gather before the tombs of the two Apostles, they will visit the Holy places, the institutions of the Church in Rome to appreciate what is done compared to their practices in the local dioceses.

They also have an appointment with Pope Francis. Robert Nginyu said the date of the Exchange with the Pontiff is not yet known, because it is not the object of their travel.

According to the Secretary General of the Episcopal conference, they will have an exchange with the 265th successor to St. Peter. "This is because he is not only the Bishop of Rome, he is mostly the point of convergence of the whole Catholic Church. So he must know what is happening elsewhere and in our country precisely", he said.

Robert Nginyu said that: "they did not go to Rome for the designation of the bishops. It may happen that they come back with the name of a new Bishop for the Archdiocese of Yaoundé, but this is not the order of the day. It was not the purpose of their trip to Italy.
